November 3, 2004
Woohoo! I woke up at 5:30 am to get an early start. I drove south on 101, then west towards the Pacific ocean. These next 8 shots are of the valley area between Rt. 101 and Pt. Reyes Station. Here's the dashboard of my brand new Hyundai Sonata, rented from Santa Rosa's Hertz agency.
IMGP0007.JPG

Just another patch of road, really -- this was a particularly scenic valley area.
IMGP0008.JPG

The camera didn't really capture this shot as I hoped it would. This section of road made a beautiful descent towards the valley ahead.

After that last descent, the road passed through this lake region. It was still early morning, and this trail looked very inviting.
IMGP0011.JPG

Another good lake shot!
IMGP0012.JPG

And another!
IMGP0013.JPG

The beach on the other side of this bridge looked inviting as well. I didn't have the patience to check (I was too eager to keep driving towards the caost), but I guess that the swimming is pretty good.
IMGP0014.JPG

Ahh, the Purple Bridge. I heard that I'd encounter this landmark on my way to Pt. Reyes Station. The photograph doesn't quite do it justice, but there is a whole lot of grafitti; surely it tells idle passers by of what lies beyond.
IMGP0015.JPG

Here is Pt. Reyes Station. This first shot -- well, it's of a Chevy Silverado, but that's unimportant -- surely does justice to the morning light, but the town itself has unique charm as well.

School will soon be in session.

Pt. Reyes' US Post Office, and farmer's market, open every Saturday from 9-1. Of course, today being Wednesday and all, it wasn't open, but I was here a week ago, and what a display!
IMGP0022.JPG

It's a little later in the morning now, about 9am. This shot is taken from south of Pt. Reyes Station, facing north (see map Site A.). You'll see more of this bay a little later.
IMGP0023.JPG

This shot is facing south, from the same spot that I took the last shot from.
IMGP0025.JPG

A pebbled beach, from the same spot as the last two shots.
IMGP0026.JPG

This is Stinson Beach. The swell here isn't too big, but I'd bet it's a decent surf spot when surf's up. See map Site B.

IMGP0029.JPG

"This swimming area is being sampled weekly to determine if the water quality is acceptable for water contact recreation." Check the sign for contact information. I wonder what's wrong with the water?

IMGP0032.JPG

I made a stop in the town of Stinson at the waterfront bakery to get some breakfast. As I left town, heading south, I stopped to take a photo of the local color.
IMGP0033.JPG

As I left Stinson, California Rt. 1 wound upwards along the coast. The next 7 shots are from a pull-off, where the view was quite stunning. See map Site C.
